Dr. Fred S. Baron Dr. Fred S. Baron, DVM, earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University in 1977 and went on to open Coastal Plains Animal Clinic in El Campo in the summer of 1985. Since then, he has dedicated his career to tirelessly serving the pets and families of Wharton County with compassion, integrity, and a commitment to excellence.

Driven by his passion for providing the highest quality care, Dr. Baron pursued AAHA Accreditation for his hospital in 2000 and has upheld those rigorous standards ever since. He is especially proud that the clinic was recently nominated for AAHA Hospital of the Year—an honor reserved for only 28 hospitals across North America.

Dr. Baron has remained deeply involved in his community, contributing to organizations such as the El Campo Chamber of Commerce, where he recently served on the board. He is also an AVMA Honor Roll Recipient, a member of Veterinary Management Groups, and a strong supporter of local events like the Wharton County Youth Fair.

Committed to lifelong learning, Dr. Baron completes over 70+ hours of continuing educations each year to ensure his patients receive the most advanced and effective care. He practices integrated medicine, recognizing that every pet is unique and deserves a tailored approach rather than a one-size-fits-all solution.

While he jokes that he doesn’t run a Labrador rescue, he does share his home with labs of his own and is a dedicated supporter of Wharton County SPOT, helping care for and advocate for homeless pets in the community.
